When we think of scent, our minds often turn to perfumes but these can sometimes be too powerful at times. Body spray, at least for me, allows for a subtle fragrance that’s not going to create too much of a stir.
What’s more, there are body sprays that are also deodorizing and will fight odor, unlike an EDT or EDP perfume.
With affordable brands like The Body Shop and Axe or the slightly more luxurious sprays from Philosophy and Bath & Body Works, there’s something for every moment. If you’re not sure which body spray to go for, I’ll share a few of my personal favorites.
Discover the best smelling body sprays for women in this video
1. Impulse Tease Body Spray
Most Popular Body Spray
Why is Impulse one of the most popular body sprays in the world? It’s affordable. The fragrances are also versatile enough to wear every day. They’re not showy and don’t pretend to be something they’re not—they simply provide us with a light, fresh scent that sticks around.
I personally find that Tease stays very well when I spray it on my clothes. It leaves a fresh fruity scent and with a hint of vanilla, it’s also super sweet. For me, that’s the perfect blend for a feminine fragrance.
My only criticism is that Tease, and many other Impulse scents cater more towards a younger audience. I’m getting a bit older now and prefer a more refined scent. But for teens and young women, Tease is a top choice.
2. Aoura Midnight Passion Body Mist
Most Long Lasting Body Spray
I’m amazed at how long this body mist lasts for such a reasonable price. I generally find that body mists tend to fade quickly but this one continues to linger all day. Yes, it’s delicate but that’s what I expect from a body spray.
I also love how luxurious the fragrance feels. It smells more like a designer perfume than a mist. As a fragrance lover, I am glad to have found the EDP version as well. I use it when I want those mysterious florals and sweet vanilla and sandalwood to be more pronounced. This is also great news if you like to layer your scent like I do.
3. Victoria’s Secret Very Sexy Fine Fragrance Mist
Best Sexy Body Spray
I love the EDP of Very Sexy but sometimes, I want to be a little more delicate in my approach. That’s when I’ll reach for a bottle of the matching body mist, which is super sensual and sexy.
For date nights, clubbing, and any other time you want to show off your sexuality, Very Sexy is a go-to. I find its scent quite unique. It features floral and woody accords alongside cappuccino notes. I love something original and think it works well as a signature.
I’d say that isn’t a body mist for wallflowers. It’s bold, outgoing, and confident. I did find that it lingered very well which I was pleased about considering this is more expensive than an average drugstore spray.
4. Hawaiian Tropic Aloha Coco Fragrance Mist
Best Cheap Body Spray
I purchased a bottle of this last summer and now always have one in my vanity. It’s less than $10 a bottle and lasts really well. I get a lot of use out of each bottle.
But it also lasts incredibly well on both skin and clothes. I spray this on my underwear and base layers for a lingering freshness all day. When I say it sticks around, I really mean it. The coconut and berry scent could be worn on the skin as a standalone scent without perfume, especially in summer.
I also love how glittery it is. Just a few sprays and my skin is covered in shimmery glitter that sparkles in the sun. This is one of my favorite things!
5. Bath And Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar Fine Body Mist
Best Everyday Body Spray
One of the reasons that I choose Warm Vanilla Sugar as a great everyday body spray is how long it lasts. I can spray it in the morning and the delicate fragrance is still noticeable after I leave the office.
But it’s not OTT and won’t offend anyone. In fact, I found that I got tons of compliments as this is a very sweet and comforting scent. When I wear it, I feel like I’m sitting by a crackling fire during the Christmas holidays. It’s probably not the ideal summertime everyday fragrance. When the sun comes out, Bath and Body Works has great scents like Japanese Cherry Blossom, which I think is a great alternative for warmer months.
6. So…? YOU Passion Night Body Mist
Best Drugstore Body Mist
SO…? YOU Passion Night is a popular drugstore brand, they also have a nice online store. I enjoy ordering from there. Because of the affordable price and a good selection of scents, the brand is becoming a popular choice.
I am enjoying YOU Passion Night. The fragrance has coconut, pink pepper, orange flower, and jasmine notes. The smell reminds me of standing on a tropical beach at sunset. There is a real romantic vibe to it, and I couldn’t stop smelling it.
I think this mist is ideal for a date night in summer. While the scent lasts quite a while, it doesn’t necessarily project for long. It’s definitely more of an up close and personal scent.
7. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Moisture Mist
Best Designer Body Mist
I’m a huge fan of Chanel perfumes but they can be pricey. So I’m thankful for their range of fragrance mists that smell just like the perfumes. They are more expensive than typical body sprays but that’s expected, and the scent is out of this world.
If you’re a fan of Coco Mademoiselle then you’ll love this light as air version of the fragrance. I also love the fact that the composition has moisturizing properties that leave your skin feeling delicately hydrated.
I think this makes a lovely gift for a special someone in your life, say on Mother’s Day or Christmas. Also, it’s ideal for layering with the original perfume or wearing on its own. This refreshing and uplifting scent is incredibly versatile.
8. Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush Cheirosa 62 Perfume Mist
Best Luxury Body Spray
Let’s not beat about the bush; $31 is a little more than most people intend to spend on a body spray. But if you’re looking to treat yourself then I’m sure you’ll be happy with the investment.
I can confidently say that the price reflects the quality. What you get is a beautifully layered scent with almond, caramel and floral notes that transforms as you wear it. Brazilian Crush is warm and inviting. I think it’s a great year-round body spray.
It lasts really well. You might be paying more but you’ll use far less. I found that spraying it in my hair really boosted the longevity and every time I moved, I’d catch a whiff.
9. Philosophy Pure Grace Body Mist
Best Clean Smelling Body Spray
Want to smell as though you’ve just stepped out of the shower? I found that I felt like this for hours after spraying Pure Grace. It’s fresh, clean, and totally inoffensive so if you’re looking for something for work that’s delicate, this is it!
Pure Grace combines green notes, water lily, and sweet musk for a fragrance that’s uber clean. I love how long it lasts on me and that it can be paired with any of the other Philosophy fragrances so you can create a scent that’s unique to you.
That said, if you want something powerful then this delicate scent probably isn’t for you. Instead, I’d go for one of the Lush body sprays that have a lot more bang in terms of power.
10. Bath And Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom Fine Fragrance Mist
Best Body Spray For Summer
I’m a sucker for a floral fragrance, especially where white florals are involved and Japanese Cherry Blossom has them in spades. I get that cherry blossom scent and fruity accords like pear that make this body mist a nice girly summer scent.
I think Japanese Cherry Blossom works beautifully for very feminine women and it doesn’t go over the top in terms of projection. I love this for everyday wear in summer when I want a fragrance that’ll get noticed but delicately.
The scents of this body spray also has a luxurious feel. If you’re going to an event and want a gentle fragrance, then I’d recommend using Japanese Cherry Blossom Mist.
11. Lush Lord Of Misrule Body Spray
Best Natural Body Spray
I love Lush because it’s committed to using natural ingredients that is why if you’re looking for a natural body spray that’s against animal testing as well, you’ll love this brand.
Lord of Misrule is a patchouli and vanilla scent that I feel is very unique. I can’t get enough of this and I use the EDP and shower gel as well to layer my scent. It’s rich, earthy, warm, and very sensual. It’s pretty unisex so you could share it with your partner.
I like how long-lasting the scent is without being overpowering. That said, if you do layer with the perfume, be careful because that’s when things get really highly fragrant. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
12. MoroccanOil Hair & Body Fragrance Mist
Best Light Body Spray
If you like a light mist that is easy to apply and wear then I’d highly suggest this fragrance mist from MoroccanOil. It’s designed to fragrance the hair and body, how about versatility.
It’s got a really light and delicate scent that softly lingers throughout the day. I love this for summer outings where I want to smell good but I don’t want it to be too overpowering.
This one has been fantastic for my hair, leaving it soft and hydrated. There’s some added UV protection in the mix which came in handy on my summer vacation. The vitamin E extracts inside help my skin smell and feel fantastic.
13. Ariana Grande Cloud Body Mist
Best Fresh Body Spray
The perfume was a hit so why not launch a body spray? And boy am I glad she did! Cloud is a fresh and uplifting scent that’s very feminine. I love to wear it for everyday activities like running errands, meeting friends for lunch, and other such events where I want to smell good but not get up anyone’s nose.
Ariana’s Cloud body mist is a coconut, floral scent with a hint of musk at the end. It’s got a very clean feel and an enormous summery character.
I have to admit that this is far from being the most long lasting body spray which is a shame considering the price. I reapply throughout the day.
14. Lush Snow Fairy Body Spray
Best Sweet Smelling Body Spray
I am an avid Lush fan and I get very excited every year when the Snow Fairy makes an appearance. This is a scent that’s only available at Christmas but it’s worth the wait. Honestly, it’s oh so sweet, super girly, and completely moreish.
It’s so relaxing using the bath bomb and shower gel before spritzing the spray all over my body. The scent lingers for ages and it’s all made from natural ingredients so it’s kinder to sensitive skin.
Lush Snow Fairy reminds me of the smell of those pink and blue bottle candies or the taste of bubblegum. If you like sweet scents, it doesn’t get any sweeter than this.
15. Good Chemistry Pink Palm Body Mist
Best Fruity Body Spray
OMG, I am in love with this scent! It is infused with unusual fruity scents like dragon fruit but also gives a hit of sweet vanilla that makes it feel super comforting.
I think Pink Palm is the perfect summer body spray. I love wearing this when I’m on vacation on a sunny beach. It’s not overbearing but it’ll leave a nice fresh, delicate scent on my skin that becomes more noticeable when my skin heats up.
As for the presentation, the bottle looks scientsy but overall very feminine. You can also find a matching perfume that is perfect for those who love to layer it with other scents.
16. The Body Shop Satsuma Body Mist
Best Citrus Body Spray
Can you ever go wrong with The Body Shop? I think not so. I was not surprised at how lovely this citrus body spray smelled when I first tried it. It’s a real zesty and uplifting fragrance that I think is perfect for summer or when you’re on vacation.
I like that the fragrance is formulated from almost all natural ingredients. The spray claims only 4% synthetic ingredients. That’s not a lot in comparison to most other sprays. I’ve noticed that The Body Shop has begun using recycled materials as well for its packaging. I am in favor of this ethical decision.
It’s an affordable body mist but I don’t get the same longevity as something like the Diptyque body spray. Still, for the price, I am not complaining.
17. Not a Hair & Body Mist by Juliette Has A Gun
Best Woody Body Spray
OK, I’m coming in with another pricey body mist, but this one is so worth the investment. Woody smells work well all year round so this is one of the most versatile options. It’s got the same woody and amber notes as the well-loved perfume and I think it’s excellent for layering.
Not a Hair & Body Mist is not only fantastically smelling but it’s also great for the hair and skin as it’s designed to rebalance the pH. There is no alcohol in this mist, and it is water-based. I think that’s a big deal for a body spray. I feel it leaves my hair soft and shiny and my skin radiant.
Despite its price the fragrance doesn’t last very well on its own. Initially, I expected at least six to eight hours but I find myself reapplying about half way through the day.
18. Axe Anarchy For Her Deodorant Body Spray
Best Deodorant Body Spray
First of all, let’s acknowledge how affordable this body spray is. Axe proves you don’t need to spend a fortune to get something great-smelling and effective. Since this is a deodorant body spray, it works well for fighting odors. When trying it I found that I remained odor-free for a long time when wearing it.
Axe Anarchy is a blend of fruity florals with a warm scent of sandalwood and vanilla. I find it has a lovely feminine scent that sticks around for quite a while. I was able to smell it on my skin for most of the day. Although, Axe scents can be overpowering this one does not massively project an intense scent. I like it because of that.
19. Rituals The Ritual of Hammam Hair & Body Mist
Best Unisex Body Spray
I’ve tried a few of the Rituals products and so far they have not disappointed me. They are spa-quality products that leave me feeling fresh, clean, and invigorated. Ritual of Hammam body mist does exactly that.
It is a unisex spray designed for use on the hair and skin and since it contains no alcohol, it’s ideal for those with sensitive skin. I get flare ups quite often but this caused no irritation whatsoever.
I use the spray on those days when I’m lacking motivation. I have found that the therapeutic effect of rosemary and eucalyptus helps giving me an energy boost as well as improving my mental clarity. This spray gives me a sense of readiness.
20. Chloé Perfumed Deodorant Spray
Best Gym Body Spray
I’ve always loved the Chloé perfume but only recently I discovered it also came in a deodorant body spray. For me it’s a great choice to pop in my gym bag to keep odors at bay. Usually, deodorants have a very clean, fresh scent but this one feels a lot more designer and high end.
The price is slightly higher. I mean, it’s not the most expensive on my list. And the scent lasts very well on my skin hours after applying it. But I find me using it quite regularly so I go through a bottle quite quickly.
21. Diptyque Do Son Body Mist
Bonus Body Spray
I couldn’t complete this list without talking about Do Son body mist. I love the EDP and while the body mist is very pricey, it’s a long lasting and absolutely gorgeous scent. It has florals like tuberose and African Orange Flower, which feels so feminine on me.
Do Son feels classy and flirty at the same time, and it’s my favorite scent during summer. ’ve noticed that this lasts almost as well as the EDP. No, it’s not as strong and doesn’t project as far but I do smell it for hours on my skin after I spray it.
Body Spray Vs Perfume
The key to understanding the difference between perfume and body spray is getting to grips with concentration. Perfumes have a lot more fragrance oil and far less alcohol whereas it’s the other way around with body sprays.
One of the main advantages of this is that body sprays are often a lot cheaper and come in larger bottles. However, you’ll find that the scents don’t last as long on the skin nor do they have as powerful a projection as perfume. Typically speaking, where a perfume might last anywhere between six and twelve hours (depending on whether it’s a cologne, EDT, EDP, or parfum), a body spray may give you up to four hours of fragrance.
Just like perfume, body spray is designed to make you smell good. It just does it in a less obvious and lighter way. You would use a body spray at times where you wanted a more delicate fragrance. That said, there are some deodorizing body sprays specifically formulated to fight odor. These are typically underarm body sprays but it’s important to keep in mind that these are not the same as an antiperspirant.
Body sprays come in various forms including the deodorant sprays I have just talked about. There are also body mists which, instead of being an aerosol spray, come in a liquid form with an atomizer. They’re light and fresh and similar to perfume, only much less concentrated. You’ll sometimes hear these being called body splashes, but they’re the same thing.
How To Use Body Spray
In order to get the most out of your body spray, you need to make sure you apply it correctly. One of the great things about these products is how versatile they are. You can use them on the skin as well as spritzing them on clothing. There are even some products that are designed to be sprayed in the hair; anything goes!
That said, just like perfume, if you want to get the strongest fragrance, it’s a good idea to apply body spray to your pulse points. This includes the wrists, the neck, the elbows, behind the ears, the chest, and even in the creases of your knees and elbows.
I’d also recommend applying a body spray to slightly damp skin; maybe when you’re fresh out of the shower. This will help the skin to absorb it, plus, it’ll help combat odors while you’re already fresh, making it more effective.
It’s worth looking at how long any particular body spray will last before you use it. Some linger all day whereas others only last a couple of hours. If you’re looking to stay fresher for longer, I’d suggest popping the bottle into your bag and being prepared to reapply at various points during the day. A lot of people also ask when should I wear body spray? The answer is, whenever you like! If you’re going to wear body spray on its own then I’d recommend doing this for low key events like picking the kids up from school, going for a casual lunch or shopping, and running errands. However, if you want to pack more of a punch in terms of fragrance then I’d suggest layering your body spray with a matching perfume for greater longevity and projection.
