Being a woman is fraught with difficulties given to us by nature. There are a lot of female influencers on social media talking about the pain of periods and the labors of…well, labor. But I haven’t seen too many people addressing that pesky underboob sweat.
If you’re like me and have a slightly larger chest then sweat can be a real issue, particularly in the summer. Also, for anyone whose breasts have started to droop a bit (and that’s NOTHING to be ashamed of), sweat can accumulate underneath.
It’s a serious pain in the butt but it’s also not something you have to put up with. Underboob sweat can be uncomfortable and cause chafing, not to mention it isn’t the most pleasant smelling thing in the world. So, I decided to experiment with some deodorants to overcome the situation, and I’m here to share the results.
What Makes Sweat Under Breasts Smell
The biggest problem for a lot of ladies is that when they sweat under their boobs, it emits a funky odor. First of all, I want to assure you that this is perfectly normal and that you are probably perfectly healthy.
But of course, nobody wants to go about their day with a nasty smell following them around. But what causes it?
Surprisingly, it isn’t actually the sweat that causes that stink, it’s bacteria. Fresh sweat doesn’t smell like much. But the bacteria on your skin cause an odor that may smell musty or sour. These bacteria break down the sweat and it’s actually their waste products that get up your nose.
Additionally, the area under the breasts is not a region that gets exposed to good air circulation so the sweat cannot evaporate. This is especially true for ladies with a larger chest so sweating may be more of a cause for concern. The good news is that applying antiperspirant or deodorant under the breasts can go a long way in eliminating the smell.
Can You Use Deodorant Under Your Breasts
Yes! You can absolutely use deodorant under your breasts. In fact, most deodorant and antiperspirant products are designed to be used anywhere on the body, perhaps with the exception of intimate areas. So, if you’re having problems with sweaty boobs, go ahead and grab a deodorant.
I should say that it is always best to check the individual product to ensure that it is suitable as there may be a few exceptions. But for the most part, you’re good to go.
I would also suggest choosing a spray over a roll-on purely because it’s easier to apply and will dry much more quickly.
One thing I would like to point out on the side of not using deodorant under your boobs is the presence of aluminum. There’s some evidence to suggest that antiperspirants that contain this ingredient could be linked to certain types of cancer, most notably, breast cancer.
But according to experts, there are currently no conclusive studies to confirm this. However, if you are concerned, you could use a natural ingredient that is aluminum-free to keep your mind at ease.
Best Products To Stop Boob Sweat
Did you know that excessive breast sweating could be caused by a hormonal issue? Moreover, if you find that the chafing causes red, sore spots, itching, or even broken skin then this could be related to a yeast infection. For this reason, I’d strongly recommend seeing your doctor before trying any of the following products.
However, if your sweat is simply related to exercise, hot weather, or a lack of good airflow then these deodorants could be an effective solution for you.
1. SweatBlock Max Clinical Antiperspirant Wipes
When it comes to deodorant, most people usually think of a spray or stick. Also available are these antiperspirant wipes. Even though the application differs, it does not make them any less effective. In fact, out of all the products I’ve tried, these wipes stand out as one of the most effective.
Sweatblock makes products for severe or heavy sweating so these are brilliant if you get a lot of underboob sweat or for summertime. What I really love is that you only need to use them once a week and day to day, you can simply apply your favorite scented deodorant as well as creams to stop chafing.
The formula is created by doctors which is a good start. However, it does contain aluminum so if you want to avoid this ingredient, this won’t be the right product for you. That said, it’s this very ingredient that makes the wipes so effective at stopping sweat.
2. Super Fresh Lady Parts Deodorant Lotion Powder Protection
A deodorant product that’s designed specifically for ladies, not only under the breasts but down below too. I’ve been checking out the powder lotion which I like as it dries straight away. However, if you want something more soothing, perhaps to relieve soreness from chafing, there is also a powder-free lotion.
In any case, I noticed that Super Fresh Lady Parts did a very good job at absorbing sweat. It works particularly well if you’re active or the weather is hot. What’s more, it has a lovely, soft coconut scent that I could smell all day without it being in your face.
For anyone that wants a deodorant that’ll be a treat for the skin, I’d give this a try. It contains nourishing ingredients like arrowroot, witch hazel, and aloe for super soft skin and no irritation.
The downside? White marks. Since this turns into a powder-on application, things can get quite messy. If you’re wearing dark clothing, I’d give this one a miss.
3. WILD Jasmine And Mandarin Blossom Deodorant
I have been using WILD Deodorant for a while now and Jasmine and Mandarin Blossom is my absolute favorite scent. It’s so fresh, floral, and feminine and I can really smell it all day. Now, I started using this under my arms but soon found that it worked just as well under my breasts.
What I really love about it is that it’s totally natural and contains organic ingredients. There’s nothing that will upset sensitive skin and it glides on smoothly. That said, it does have a habit of leaving white marks which is frustrating.
WILD deodorant is effective for mild to moderate sweating. It keeps me dry all day and does fight odors. However, I notice that if I overexert myself or it’s very hot, odors do start to occur later in the day so I need to wash and reapply. But if you’re looking for something that smells divine, this would be my top recommendation.
4. Dove Advanced Care Deodorant Stick Lavender Fresh
I love the scent of lavender and I found this deodorant to be fragranced just the right amount; not too strong but strong enough that I caught a whiff from time to time. Therefore, I would recommend the Dove Advanced Care stick to anyone who wants a way to mask odors with a pleasant scent.
So, it smells good but does it do much else? I’m pleased to tell you that this deodorant does a great job at stopping sweat. However, it does contain aluminum to achieve that which is something you may wish to think about.
I found that the Dove stick was very good to my skin which I expected from this brand. The deodorant contains a lot of soothing ingredients such as natural oils and moisturizers so it’s brilliant if your skin is sore from chafing.
5. NxN Undercover Agent Liquid Powder
I don’t like the idea of applying a liquid under my breasts as they usually feel sticky. However, this one is a liquid to powder formula so, while it goes on wet, it dries pretty much instantly. This makes it really comfortable to apply and wear.
I also really like that the NxN Undercover Agent deodorant works well on other body parts such as the underarms and private parts. So, it’s perfect for people who sweat heavily all over the body. But despite being so effective in keeping me dry, I was surprised to notice how kind it was to my skin.
It contains ingredients such as aloe vera and vitamin E so it’s really nourishing and won’t dry your skin out. Plus, if you get chafing, it feels very soothing. And there are no nasty ingredients which I love as my skin is very sensitive.
The product absorbs sweat and leaves a very delicate floral fragrance behind. But it’s not overpowering. The only downside is that I noticed it does leave white marks on dark clothing which could be a dealbreaker for many people.
6. Megababe Smoothie Deo Fruit Enzyme Daily Deodorant
I’d read a lot of reviews about this deodorant and how good it was meant to be for sweaty breasts so I had high hopes. Let’s just take a moment to appreciate the cute packaging too!
I adore the scent of this deodorant. It’s summery and fresh but also quite strong. If you don’t want a very in-your-face deodorant, this might not be the best option. The fragrance did an excellent job at masking odors and I found it to still be prominent later in the day. What’s more, the deodorant contains fruit enzymes that are designed to neutralize odor causing bacteria.
The Megababe smoothie deo applies really nicely and smoothly. I’ve also heard it does wonders for dark underarms, if you’re looking for a multipurpose product. While the deodorant does claim to be suitable for all skin types, be mindful that the fruit enzymes will exfoliate which may not be OK if you have sensitive skin.
7. Kopari Aluminum-Free Coconut Oil Natural Deodorant
For women that suffer from intense chafing, the Kopari deodorant is going to feel very soothing. It contains coconut oil which is wonderful for the skin. While it won’t heal any existing redness or sore spots, it will nourish your skin and with sage oil, it’ll soothe any irritation.
However, it’s the antibacterial properties that really caught my attention. This is what makes Kopari so effective at preventing odors and I felt fresh all day when using it. It won’t stop you sweating as this is an aluminum-free deodorant, but it will absorb moisture and kept me feeling dry.
No white marks, no stickiness, recyclable packaging. The list of positives about this deodorant are endless. However, the one thing I will say is that the fragrance isn’t all that strong. I prefer something a little more highly scented but that said, it does smell pleasant.
8. Crystal Mineral Deodorant Spray Chamomile And Green Tea
If you’re looking for a very affordable way to manage underboob sweat then I think that the Crystal Mineral Deodorant is a great choice. But it’s not only gentle on your wallet, it’s also gentle on your skin, containing no aluminum or parabens. That said, it does contain potassium which has aluminum in it. But according to the manufacturer, these particles are too large to be absorbed by the skin, so we’re safe!
This is a spray so it’s quick drying and really easy to apply and I love the fresh yet delicate scent. It also does a very good job of covering up any odors and I felt fresh even after a long day of running errands.
What I also loved about this one was that it left no residue on my skin once it had dried. It feels weightless as if you’re wearing nothing at all.
9. Vanicream Antiperspirant Deodorant
If you’re anything like me, sensitive skin can be a real challenge. You never really know which products are going to cause a flare up but I felt confident using this one as it’s designed specifically for sensitive skin. I think that if you suffer from chafing as a result of underboob sweat, this could also be a good option as it’s so soothing and gentle.
Vanicream does contain aluminum and while this might put some people off, I have to say that it contributes to how well this product stops you from sweating. For anyone that sweats heavily under their breasts, I think you’ll notice a big difference when using this.
I’d also recommend Vanicream for anyone who doesn’t want a scented deodorant. Since it stops you from sweating, it will tackle odors but you’re free to add your own fragrance over the top, if you wish, without the deodorant interfering with it.
10. Carpe No Sweat Breast Lotion
This is absolutely one of my favorite sweat absorber products, even though it’s also one of the most expensive. But if you’ve tried everything else and want to give something totally new a go, then I’d highly recommend it. What’s more, it might be costly but you really only need a tiny bit for each breast to get results.
Carpe No Sweat Breasts is a lotion that’s designed for everyday use. Not only will it prevent and absorb sweat but it’s also perfect if you get regular chafing. The soothing lotion creates a barrier on the skin and stops redness and irritation. However, you should note that it won’t clear up existing rashes or redness.
The lotion is also brilliant at preventing odors and I found that, even when it was very hot, there was no noticeable smell. That said, it isn’t highly scented which is great if you want something more discrete.
DIY Under Breast Sweat Absorbers
Using a deodorant is just one way to tackle that irritating breast sweat. If you are out of deodorant or want to try another method, here are a few tips on things that I have found work very well.
Panty Liners
Yes, that’s right, ladies, those panty liners are multipurpose and if you’re suffering with sweat, they could be just what you’ve been looking for. All it takes is to stick a panty liner inside your bra and it’ll absorb any sweat. What’s also great about this method is that it’ll stop any chafing which can lead to sore spots.
Moisture Wicking Bras
Brands are becoming more and more aware of the needs of modern women and as such, there are tons of moisture wicking bras out there. This is something that’s very commonly seen in sports bras so if you’re an active gal then this might be the solution for you.
Bra Liners
Bra liners are a popular choice as they’re easy to use and affordable. They’re made of moisture wicking materials and are often reusable. These are perfect for women who want a permanent solution. However, make sure to look for one that’s antimicrobial and antibacterial otherwise odor may still be an issue.
Paper Towels
If you’re in a pinch and need a solution quickly then reach for the paper towels. I wouldn’t suggest this as an everyday thing but quickly soaking up sweat and stopping your bra from rubbing can be achieved this way.
Avoid Padded Bras
I know, I know…we all want the girls to look pushed up and plump but wearing a padded bra could be what’s causing that boob sweat in the first place. Bra padding is not breathable so where you can avoid it, do. Opt instead for cotton, lace, and other breathable materials and this may be enough to solve the problem for good.
In addition to this, try to wear loose fitting clothing as this will improve airflow and lessen the chances of sweat.
Use An Anti Chafing Gel
This isn’t so much a sweat absorber as it is something to stop that nasty chafing. Anti-chafing gels prevent friction when your breasts rub together or on the skin below. What’s more, friction causes heat and heat causes sweat so it could be a way to handle the issue.
Combining Several Methods
I’ve shared about various methods for tackling underboob sweat in this guide and they’re all super effective. However, if you suffer from severe sweat, you may need to take several different approaches.
Try using an antiperspirant to stop sweat from occurring in the first place and to keep you as dry as possible. Then add some kind of absorber to your bra to mop up any sweat that does come through as well as using products to combat chafing such as the Gold Bond Friction Defense Stick.
It may be a few additional steps to add to your morning routine but it’s something that’ll leave you feeling fresh and confident throughout the day.
