Let me not get too controversial, but I have to point out how the sale of Dior Sauvage has skyrocketed recently thanks to a certain court case. But even before this relatively obscure and unintentional method of marketing, Sauvage has been one of the most popular men’s fragrances of recent years.

But come on, let’s face it, Dior isn’t the most affordable brand on the planet, is it? If you want a similar fragrance that won’t break the bank, there are some impressive dupes around. In this article, I’ve rounded up 10 colognes that are similar to Dior Sauvage.

What Similarities Are We Looking For In Sauvage?

OK, before we get started, I should tell you that I’m writing this guide based around the Dior Sauvage EDT. There is an EDP and a parfum but I’ll save that for another day.

Sauvage eau de toilette is an aromatic fougere fragrance with a fresh spicy opening of bergamot and pepper. It blasts through a diverse heart of pink and Sichuan pepper, lavender, vetiver, patchouli, elemi, and geranium. At the base, it turns warm with notes of ambroxan, cedar, and labdanum.

It’s not a terribly unique composition but it’s easy to tell from its competitors. Once you’ve had your first whiff of Sauvage, you’ll always associate it with that moment when you smell it again. It’s certainly unmistakable.

One of the reasons that guys love Dior Sauvage so much is that it’s a very masculine and sexy fragrance. It’s something that will make you feel powerful, wild, and free but also incredibly well-groomed. Now there’s a juxtaposition if ever I’ve heard one! But that’s just the very soul of Sauvage.

It’s long-lasting and projects very well but a lot of people have a problem with the price. Dior is known for its slightly higher-end colognes so you have to expect to pay good money for that. A 3.4oz bottle is currently retailing for over $100. It’s OK for special occasions but if you’re going to wear it as a day-to-day fragrance, it could get expensive.

So, that’s why I think it’s a good idea to find a cheaper alternative. Something you can pop in your bag or the car and spray to your heart’s content. If you’re unsure what to look for, my list of Dior Sauvage dupes will point you in the right direction.

11 Dupes Similar to Dior Sauvage

1. Dossier Aromatic Star Anise

Dossier Aromatic Star Anise dupe of Dior's Sauvage
Dossier Aromatic Star Anise similar to Dior’s Sauvage

I’ve recently discovered Dossier’s Aromatic Star Anise, a dupe for Dior’s Sauvage. Here’s my personal take.

The scent resemblance got my attention right away. Both share that punchy pepper, tangy bergamot, and earthy vetiver. The difference? Star Anise pitches in, adding an extra kick to the Dossier fragrance. One whiff and I knew it packed a spicier punch than Sauvage.

In terms of longevity, both Sauvage and Star Anise stuck with me throughout the day. Sauvage’s over-7-hour lifespan is legendary, but on me, Star Anise lasted well into the evening too. It was like a loyal companion that didn’t quit.

Sauvage is famous for filling a room. Star Anise is subtler. Even so, it left a lingering impression that snagged a few compliments my way.

Despite the price difference, Dossier’s budget-friendly $29 versus Dior’s pricier $77 tag, I was impressed by Dossier’s quality. It rivaled the ingredients of Sauvage without stirring up my sensitive skin, which was a big win.

Aesthetics-wise, Dossier’s minimalistic packaging rivaled Dior’s classic elegance. It felt neat and uncomplicated, just the way I like it.

I got my Aromatic Star Anise online from Dossier.co. It was a smooth transaction and, in my opinion, a worthy investment given the significant price difference from Sauvage.

The return policy from Dossier simplified things. Don’t love it? Return it – no fuss.

On my skin, Aromatic Star Anise evolved beautifully. The spicy notes unfolded over time, lending exciting complexity to the scent.

While both fragrances fit all seasons, Aromatic Star Anise, with its spicier undertone, felt cozier in cooler weather, while Sauvage’s fresh notes scream summer to me.

Dossier is definitely a scent-savvy brand. Their Aromatic Star Anise lived up to the promise. An affordable dupe with a spicy twist, it stood its ground against Dior’s Sauvage. Whether you’re a Sauvage fan or just dipping your toes into the fragrance world, give Aromatic Star Anise a shot—you might just fall for it like I did.

2. The Essence Vault 197

The Essence Vault 197
The Essence Vault 197

The Essence Vault is everywhere right now. I don’t know about you but I’m forever getting tailored ads on TikTok and Instagram for this company. And it is something to get excited about, especially when it comes to dupes.

This Dior Sauvage dupe is a fraction of the cost; around four times less, as it happens, but still boasts all of the right fragrance notes. The composition is slightly different in that the vetiver and patchouli are found at the base while ambroxan features in the heart. But they’re all there so you could be fooled into thinking this was Sauvage.

It’s also an excellent choice if you want something long-lasting. Looking at reviews, you’ll see that just a couple of sprays goes a very long way. There’s not much to complain about although the bottle could do with some work as it’s got nothing on the sauve blue ombre of the real deal.

3. Dior Sauvage Eau De Parfum

Come on, you didn’t think I was going to write this guide and not include the older, more sophisticated brother of Sauvage EDT, did you? No, you aren’t going to save any money here so that could be a downside, but you’ve got the expert nose of Francois Demachy behind this scent, just like the EDT.

Sauvage eau de parfum is intense and manly but with fewer notes making it much more elegant. It opens with bergamot followed by pepper, star anise, lavender, and nutmeg. The base is a little sweeter thanks to the addition of vanilla alongside ambroxan.

To the untrained nose, one might think they’re the same fragrance. But to a more refined sense, you can tell the two apart. If you want to enjoy everything that Dior has to offer, it’s a worthwhile alternative.

4. Blossom 073

Blossom 073
Blossom 073

Blossom 073 comes in an attractive little flacon although I do feel it’s a little feminine to look at, especially compared to what’s inside. However, it’s an excellent Dior Sauvage smell-a-like cologne that contains a lot of the same fragrance notes like bergamot, geranium, lavender, and vetiver, among others.

There’s a real intensity to 073 but it’s not offensive. Just like the original Sauvage, it’s also got a fresh hit that’s suitable for daily wear. I should also point out that this and an EDP rather than an EDT so it’s a little more highly concentrated.

5. Jubilee CD170

Jubilee CD170
Jubilee CD170

Jubilee CD170 is one of the slightly higher priced Aventus clones. When I say higher priced, you’re still getting a bargain but it’s just slightly more expensive than something like Blossom. Again, this one is entirely inspired by Sauvage so you get a very close match. The only major difference is licorice in the base which gives it a slightly unique twist without straying away too much from the original formula.

This Dior Sauvage smell-a-like outlasts the original in terms of longevity. Whereas some would say that you’d need to respray Sauvage if you’re heading out of an evening, CD170 will stretch from morning to night without a problem.

6. Bleu De Chanel

Bleu de Chanel is a fragrance that is somewhat similar to Dior Sauvage; fragrance fans keep comparing the two and I can see why. Look, it’s not a direct copy but many of the same notes are there like pepper, vetiver, cedar, and labdanum. This gives Bleu de Chanel a very similar character to Sauvage.

You aren’t going to save where price is concerned since this is another designer perfume. However, if you like Sauvage but want something slightly sweeter for daytime wear, then Bleu de Chanel is an excellent Sauvage alternative.

7. Axe Amber Proximity

OK, hear me out, this is more of a body spray than a cologne but I keep seeing perfume fans raving about how similar it is to Sauvage. I just had to include it. It’s super affordable and there’s a range of other products like the body wash to compliment it.

The packaging will look a little cheap, like something you’d find in the backpack of a highschooler but it’s the scent that really matters. It’s got that rich spicy character of Sauvage with prominent notes of amber, bergamot, and vetiver. It’s delicate so perfect for work, school, and running errands. Cheap and cheerful; yes please!

8. Acqua Essenziale Colonia by Salvatore Ferragamo

Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Colonia
Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Colonia

Let’s start by noting that this is an aromatic fougere fragrance so it immediately falls into the same category as our beloved Sauvage. It’s not a direct copy so don’t expect miracles but it’s an affordable and fresh twist on Dior’s cologne.

Acqua Essenziale Colonia bursts open with bergamot and water notes followed by clary sage, orange blossom, and lavender. The base melts ambroxan with tonka bean and vetiver so it’s easy to see how it would smell similar to Sauvage. It’s not as long-lasting or intense but for less than $30, who can complain at having to have a little extra spritz later in the day?

9. Zara Aromatic Future

Zara Aromatic Future
Zara Aromatic Future

Aromatic Future is a very simple composition that incorporates all of the main components of Dior Sauvage. Pepper, lavender, vetiver, and a dash of ambergris make this remarkably similar without being an exact copy.

Fans of Sauvage will love how this gives them that wild and warm feeling but I should note that the lack of bergamot makes this one slightly less fresh. Maybe not as great in the summer but more of a comforting winter fragrance. For the cheap price, you’re getting something that sits on the skin all day so it’s certainly excellent value for money.

10. Martin Lion H35

Martin Lion H35

Looking at the bottle of H35 by Martin Lion, you could be forgiven for thinking that you’re looking at an original designer perfume. A lot of effort has gone in to the presentation and yet you only need to pay around $30 for 50ml.

This brand prides itself on bringing almost identical dupes and you wouldn’t easily be able to tell the difference between H35 and Sauvage. This one is even an EDP meaning it has a slightly more concentrated perfume essence and, therefore, should be longer-lasting and more intense. That makes it great for date night or an evening out.

11. Wild One by Amour Scents

Amour Scents Wild One
Amour Scents Wild One

If you want a ridiculously affordable alternative to Sauvage that’s going to tick all the right boxes, then I would highly recommend Wild Ones from Amour Scents. It comes in a very standard-looking bottle so you could be forgiven for thinking that the quality is also lacking.

But once you get inside, you’ll discover a beautiful woody aromatic cologne that’s not only inspired by, but remarkably similar to Dior Sauvage. Ambroxan features heavily alongside labdanum, patchouli and bergamot; everything is there.

Since Amour Scents uses high-quality oils, you also get amazing longevity from this one. While the company itself admits that the dupe is only 90% similar to Sauvage, it’s a pretty close match without committing some kind of fragrance plagiarism.

To Conclude

Have you been looking for a fragrance similar to Dior Sauvage because you don’t want to spend a small fortune on cologne but want that distinctive scent. Well, as you notice, there are lots of similar options out there. Whether you’re looking for something that can’t be told apart from Sauvage or something that just gives a nod towards it, my list of Dior Sauvage smell-a-like scents contains something for everyone.
