Ombre Leather is a spicy leather fragrance released by Tom Ford in 2018. The smell of Ombre Leather reminds me of a designer leather jacket mixed with jasmine floral notes. This combination is unisex but masculine and great for date nights and special occasions.
If you love the smell of Ombre Leather and are looking for other fragrances that elicit this vibe, then you’re in the right place. I’ve found ten dupes and alternatives for Ombre Leather that you must try if you can’t get enough of the rich leather notes.
What Similarities Are We looking for in Ombre Leather
Ombre Leather smells like the scent of sweet jasmine flowers while stepping into a boutique filled with designer leather goods. The moment I spray it, I detect a slight hint of gasoline that settles after a few minutes. Once it settles, it takes on a potent, linear leather scent shrouded in amber and earthy notes. The fragrant hints of jasmine do an excellent job of tampering down any synthetic vibe that a leather-based fragrance tends to elicit.
When I’m looking for a decent alternative to Ombre Leather I prefer that the heart of the fragrance remains a deep, masculine leather. Amber or light floral notes should be present to soften the accord but they should never overshadow a deep leather scent. The dry down should be earthy and woody, but leather or suede should always be present throughout the experience.
Now that we know what we should look for, let me share my list of close dupes and alternatives for Tom Ford’s Ombre Leather.
10 Tom Ford Ombre Leather Dupes
1. Our Impression of Tom Ford – Ombre Leather 16 by OilPerfumery
While this fragrance is a dupe for Ombre Leather 16, it fits well with my other favorites. Not only is it compact and portable but I was surprised by the longevity of this oil-based fragrance. When I first applied it, I immediately noticed strong black leather vibes. While cardamom lends spiciness to the opening, it quickly fades as fragrant jasmine and violet fill the air. The base is earthy, and the patchouli is highly prominent. There’s also less of a petroleum scent, which may work out better with your chemistry if you didn’t like that quality about the original Ombre Leather.
2. La Yuqawam Homme by Rasasi
For an option with a sweeter opening that still has a strong leather heart I strongly suggest that you try La Yuqawam. Upon the first spray, I noticed a fruity raspberry note that was quite different than Ombre Leather. There is also a strong scent of alcohol. However, that disappears as the fragrance moves into a smoky, spicy blend of leather, suede, and jasmine. A gasoline note remains through wear, but the raspberry prevents this fragrance from becoming too overtly masculine. I find that it smells like leather combined with sweet cigars and I think its perfect for a special night out.
3. Untethered by Alexandria Fragrances
I think Untethered comes very close to capturing the whole essence of Ombre Leather at a lower price point. At the opening, familiar leather notes hang heavy in the air and mature as it moves through an accord of spicy cardamon, fragrant jasmine and a mossy base.
Untethered projects well, and a definite scent trail remains for hours. The dry down is smokier than Ombre Leather, but it doesn’t change the overall feel. If you opt for Untethered, I recommend choosing the parfum extract instead of the solid fragrance option. The solid perfume doesn’t project nearly as well.
4. Ombre Leather 16 by Tom Ford
Ombre Leather 16 is more refined than its newest version, so if you’re looking for something considerably lighter, you should check this formulation out. While the leather opening is familiar, sweet violet and jasmine create a smoother experience. This fragrance appeared much more linear than the latter Ombre Leather and only began to develop after the first few minutes. There is a soft mossy base that elevates the leather notes and helps with projection. I think this perfume would make a good introduction for those just starting to explore bold, leather-based scents.
5. Passion by The Dua Brand
Try Passion if you like fragrances that develop and evolve throughout the day. While the opening is similar to Ombre Leather, I notice that Passion reveals its full accord much more slowly. It takes several minutes after the first spray for the jasmine to appear, rounding out the edges of this masculine scent. The patchouli base gives it a very earthy vibe.
I find that Passion is much bolder than Ombre Leather, with a subtle ashy note that lingers throughout the day. There’s something rebellious yet refined about this fragrance and it evokes the sense of someone who’s not afraid to get their hands dirty.
6. Brick by ALT.
While Brick is a dupe for Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather, I feel that the fragrance is a suitable alternative for fans of Ombre Leather too. Brick opens with raspberries, and a subtle whiff of spicy saffron and thyme lingers for several minutes. A strong leather heart appears, while a hint of vanilla creates a creamier vibe than Ombre Leather.
I have noticed that the fragrance becomes more intense as it matures, and there is a tartness that becomes sharper throughout the day. Again, this is not a subtle fragrance, and its projection is stronger than Ombre Leather. A couple of sprays will get you through the day. Nevertheless, Brick can be too intense for an office environment.
7. Godolphin by Parfums de Marly
I think Godolphin is worth trying out if you’re looking for a masculine fragrance similar to Ombre Leather. While the vibe is similar, Godolphin is much creamier due to a vanilla scent that appears as it dries down. An unexpected fruity twist is apparent at first spray, while Ombre leather reveals strong leather notes right after application. As it dries down, rose and amber mingle with sweet fruit and enhance the leather vibe.
Godolphin smells to me like a well-oiled, polished piece of luxury leather. Ombre leather smells a bit more rugged and rough around the edges. The sweet notes in Godolphin remain present for a long time, and the base is muskier too. The sillage is relatively heavy with this one, so try it out before committing to a bottle.
8. True Leather For Her by Zara
For women who are curious about leather fragrances, you should try True Leather For Her from Zara. The fragrance is quite affordable and a decent introduction to this scent. Actual leather notes are absent in True Leather. However, a unique linear blend of saffron, amber, and moss creates a smoky leather vibe.
Unlike Ombre Leather, it doesn’t need time to develop, as it reveals its whole fragrance experience right away. I get a powerful blast of smoky leather as soon as I spray it, and it takes a while to settle. Also, unlike Ombre Leather, there aren’t any floral notes to soften the vibe of this fragrance. The opening is intense. However, it becomes more subdued and less cloying once given time to settle.
I find True Leather smells like smoky incense at first, transforming into an earthy skin scent after a few hours. While the longevity could be better, I reapply throughout the day as needed.
9. Vintage Suede by Cremo
Although this fragrance isn’t an exact clone of Ombre Leather, I believe it comes very close. Vintage Suede is another fragrance on my list with a very linear formulation. After the initial alcohol spray settles, I notice suede, amber, and moss right out of the bottle. While Vintage Suede is much lighter and a bit sweeter than Ombre Leather, it comes very close to capturing its overall essence.
After about an hour of wear, it becomes harder to distinguish their differences. For the price point, it’s worth a try.
10. True Leather For Him by Zara
Last on my list of dupes and alternatives to Ombre Leather is True Leather For Him by Zara. The leather notes present in this fragrance are very sharp and potent. A slight whiff of bergamot appears as it dries down, but it doesn’t soften the heavy leather vibe I get when I’m wearing it.
I found this fragrance to be intense initially, but it quickly lost projection and became a subtle skin scent after about two hours. Its initial intensity, however, makes me reluctant to use this fragrance at work. If this bold leather fragrance appeals to you like me, wear it lightly or save it for special occasions.
