While it does open up with similar notes of green and freshness, there is a bit more spice that tends to take over the initial notes quickly. To my nose, Egra Men Rasasi reminds me of what it might smell like if I sprayed Green Irish Tweed right before heading out on a long hike in the woods. The spiciness and woodiness feature a bit more heavily, and the bottom notes round out with hints of musk and sandalwood. Unfortunately, I didn’t find this cologne to last very long, so prepare to reapply it several times throughout the day. While Green Irish Tweed tends to be a warm weather fragrance, I think you could get away with wearing Egra Men Rasasi through the fall without it smelling out of place.
2. Dossier Green Verbena
Dossier’s Green Verbena is a direct dupe of Creed’s Green Irish Tweed. The Dossier interpretation of Green Irish Tweed captures Green Irish Tweed’s essence in a fresh and modern way. The opening notes of verbena, peppermint, and green leaves are quite invigorating, while the heart of violet and orris gives the fragrance a touch of refinement and casual elegance. 3. Tres Nuit for men by Armaf
Often described as the fragrance most similar to Green Irish Tweed, Tres Nuit Armaf for men has a very similar vibe, yet at a lower price point. Upon first spray, Tres Nuit Armaf opens up with notes of verbena like Green Irish Tweed, but also incorporates hints of lemon that tends to linger while some of the other notes reveal themselves. While I can see the similarities between the two, I think this cologne smells somewhat synthetic, and the addition of bright, citrusy lemon top notes overwhelm the middle notes of violet and spice. It’s a bit more aromatic and spicy which comes off a little too strong for my taste. This sets the two colognes apart, as Green Irish Tweed smells very fresh and ozonic without coming off as “cheap”. Still, I think it might be worth a try, especially if you love Green Irish Tweed but don’t have room in your budget for the real deal. Its longevity is decent and sillage is moderate. Seeing how inexpensive it is, I think this cologne would be a safe blind buy if you’re looking for a fragrance with a similar dry down experience and fragrance profile.
4. The Irish Gentleman by Alexandria Fragrances
This direct dupe is slightly more powdery and less earthy than Green Irish Tweed but be sure to try it out. The Irish Gentleman starts off with soft, powdery and bright green notes before settling into a bright violet bouquet and sandalwood heart. To my nose, The Irish Gentleman doesn’t project quite as strongly as Green Irish Tweed does, and it’s a bit brighter as well. The Irish Gentleman has a vintage vibe, and also feels more mature and refined than Green Irish Tweed. Alexandria Fragrances specializes in creating colognes and perfumes that are inspired by the real deal, and The Irish Gentleman doesn’t disappoint. I’d say this fragrance is just about as close as you can get without splurging on the real deal.
5. Carven Pour Homme by Carven
If you’re looking for something very similar to Green Irish Tweed but more oceanic then be sure to check out Carven Pour Homme by Carven. Upon first spray I notice that there’s a vintage vibe that’s quite similar to Green Irish Tweed. Violet top notes are bolder and much more noticeable with this fragrance. Though it dries down in a very similar earthy manner, the floral notes are still detectable as it settles on the skin. What I like about Carven Pour Homme is that it is not overbearing and it evokes a very clean vibe that’s perfect to wear on a warm spring day. It should be noted that pine notes will carry throughout the day, but they aren’t too sharp or overbearing. I also notice that Carven Pour Homme is much more herbal, with hints of sage and nutmeg that pleasantly appear a few minutes after the first spray. If you love the clean, green notes that Green Irish Tweed is known for and you’re looking for a more affordable alternative, then I think you should give Carven Pour Homme a try.
6. L’Aventure Knight by Al Haramain
L’Aventure Knight by Al Haramain has often been touted as a cologne with a strikingly similar vibe to Green Irish Tweed, however, there are some pretty notable differences that you should be aware of. The cologne starts off very powdery and it tends to linger for a bit too long for my taste. The green notes are much more subtle. It eventually starts to dry down and reveal a floral middle of violet and iris before settling into a warm, cozy base of amber and musk.
While many people make the comparison between L’Aventure Knight and Green Irish Tweed, I think the powdery notes are a little too overbearing and distracting for me to enjoy the rest of the scent. I do notice the similarities to Green Irish Tweed as it dries down, but I still think the vibe could be a bit too powdery and not as fresh for most people. Still, it may be worth a try if you’re willing to try something slightly different.
7. Cool Water by Davidoff
Cool Water was released just a few years after Green Irish Tweed in the 1980s, and comparisons between the two have been made ever since then. Cool Water smells like Green Irish Tweed with an oceanic vibe. The green notes mix with refreshing oceanic notes as soon as it hits your nose. I don’t think Cool Water projects nearly as well as Green Irish Tweed does, but it’s affordable enough to spray a bit more liberally if you’d like to.
It should be noted that Pierre Bourdo is the nose behind Cool Water and he also co-created Green Irish Tweed. Therefore it comes as no surprise that both fragrances capture a very similar vibe. Cool Water is refreshing, clean, and somewhat less green and more aromatic than Green Irish Tweed is. If you’re a fan of Green Irish Tweed, you should consider checking out Cool Water. Not only is it much more affordable, but they compliment each other and are of equal quality in terms of formulation.
8. Chez Bond by Bond No 9
If you love the fresh green vibes of Green Irish Tweed but are looking for something a little lighter and more subtle, be sure to try Chez Bond no. 9. To me, the way the notes in this fragrance come together is unique, as there aren’t any obvious top, middle, or bottom notes. Rather, they all tend to intermingle and play off of each other. Throughout the day I noticed hints of fresh greens, citrus, cedar, and amber that would show up subtly and then gently disappear into the background again. I feel this is a more playful, youthful fragrance than the more mature, stately Green Irish Tweed. It’s on the pricier side, though it is quite long lasting and nowhere near as expensive as Creed’s fragrances tend to be. The sillage is stronger with Chez Bond no. 9, which could account for the way the notes develop over time on the skin. While there are some hints of fresh violets, this fragrance isn’t nearly as floral as Green Irish Tweed. Check out Chez Bond no. 9 if you like the freshness of Green Irish Tweed but are looking for something a little younger and lighter.
9. Mohair by ALT.
Mohair is a Green Irish Tweed clone by ALT with great longevity and decent projection. Mohair opens with rich green meadow notes of Green Irish Tweed. Initially, I was not impressed due to a sharp note of mint that hit my nose as soon as I sprayed it. But the mint is quite transient and faded away after a few minutes to reveal clean grassy notes which are synonymous with Green Irish Tweed. Mohair quickly works through the violet middle notes and settles quite nicely on the skin with warm hints of sandalwood and ambergris. I think Mohair is one of the higher-quality clones available for Green Irish Tweed, and the price point is reasonable. I think Mohair would be nearly identical if it weren’t for that initial hit of mint when you first spray it.
10. Our Impression of Creed’s Green Irish Tweed by Oil Perfumery
Next on my list of fragrances you should try if you enjoy Green Irish Tweed is a clone by Oil Perfumery. Oil Perfumery is well known for their impressions of designer fragrances. While it captures the essence of Green Irish Tweed, it doesn’t project nearly as well as the original. Still, I think it’s well formulated and the notes develop quite similarly, all the way down to its warm amber and sandalwood base. I was impressed with how well formulated it was, especially for a dupe. Unfortunately, the longevity is somewhat poor and you’re going to have to reapply it after a couple of hours if you need it to last through your busy day. That being said, Oil Perfumery’s Impression of Green Irish Tweed is pretty close to the real deal. Knowing you can purchase it for a fraction of the price, I believe it’s a good dupe to have on hand.
11. Aspen by Coty
The final fragrance on my list is Aspen by Coty. I almost didn’t include this cologne on my list due to its heavily synthetic pine notes when I first sprayed it. Right out of the bottle it nearly smelled like a household cleaner. However, within ten minutes Aspen completely transforms into something very subtle and surprisingly refreshing. After letting this fragrance settle for a moment or two it reveals a woody, musky base that is very pleasant and lies intimately on the skin. You can still detect notes of pine throughout the dry down, but they tend to become more subtle as the day wears on. Aspen is not very floral at all, and is somewhat one-dimensional in terms of fragrance accord. However, for the price, I think this would be a safe blind buy if you were a fan of the aromatic and ozonic qualities that Green Irish Tweed embodies. In terms of performance, Aspen is lacking, and within three or four hours the projection is nearly nonexistent. Still, it is a pleasant skin scent that’s a good option for those who prefer a subtle fragrance for everyday wear.
