How to Choose Your Henry Rose Fragrance

Unisex fragrances will typically stick with specific notes so both genders can wear them. Often, these notes have a fresh or clean scent. Others may have a spicy, earthy, or musky smell. You’ll want to ensure that whichever scent you choose, you’ll love. The last thing you want is to spend money on a fragrance you hate.

Consider what you want the fragrance for. Do you want to wear it on a date? Do you need a new replacement? Do you want to experiment? Are you shopping for the season? Once you’ve established what you want it for, you can begin to narrow your search.

For those shopping for a season or special occasion, Queen & Monsters, Dark is Night, and Torn are great options for the fall and winter months. Out of the three, Torn is better suited for daytime use, while the others are ideal for night events like dates or parties. Windows Down, Smyth, and Jake’s House are the only true daytime summery scents. Last Night and Fog will work for any season, but only Last Night is strong enough for the nightlife.

Some great alternatives to Henry Rose perfume are: Velvet Haze by Byredo for Last Night, Mugler Cologne by Mugler for Jake’s House, and Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Arancia di Capri by Acqua di Parma for Windows Down. Others are Vanilla Musk by Coty for Queens & Monsters, The One by Dolce&Gabbana for Torn, and Precious Oud by Van Cleef & Arpels for Dark is Night.

Henry Rose Perfume: What Can You Expect

The design of the bottles is unique compared to other brands of the same caliber. The bottles almost resemble an inverted wine glass. The cap looks inverted from a regular cap too. The design does give it a modern, chic look to it. I do find it interesting that the bottles are made with recycled glass, and the caps are made from soy. The packaging it comes in is even biodegradable.

While the design of the bottle itself is unique, it does feel cheap or generic when it comes to the label. The label reminds me of a receipt that was stamped on the bottle instead of something more personal to the fragrance.

I’d rank most of the fragrances’ longevity from moderate to long-lasting. The only exceptions would be Fog and Last Night. I’d rank these two as eternal. For sillage, I’d rank the scents as moderate with Jake’s House and Torn strong to enormous.

Despite all the fragrances being listed as unisex, some of them I didn’t find to smell neutral. Dark is Night, Torn, Queens & Monsters, and Smyth do have a much more female scent to it where if you were a male, you’d get asked about it. Similarly, Windows Down and Fog are more on the masculine side. It’s not necessarily a negative but not a true unisex representation, so some may have an issue with those scents.

For the price point, I found it to be OK. The bottle sizes are 50ml (1.7oz) and cost around $120. They also sell travel-size spray bottles of 8ml (.27oz) that cost $35. Compared to other brands that avoid chemicals in their ingredients, the price is average.

Henry Rose: What You Need to Know

Henry Rose was founded by American Actress Michelle Pfeiffer in 2019. It was named after her two children. She quietly began developing the fragrance brand for almost ten years prior to its launch. It took so long because of her vision.

She was inspired to create a fragrance that was ingredient-safe and smelled good. However, she ran into issues with fragrance houses because they couldn’t give her 100% transparency and gave her 75% at most.

She eventually found IFF, a luxury fragrance house that offered 100% transparency with high-quality ingredients. They worked in collaboration with EWG and Cradle to Cradle. It took years to develop the scents, but she was pleased with what the creators came up with. Each perfumer created scents to evoke a memory, person, place, or a feeling.

Currently, the only publicly known celebrity that wears the fragrance is Michelle Pfeiffer herself. The ad campaigns don’t feature other celebrities or well-known models. They seem to recruit new models, undiscovered models for campaigns and many of their faces are blurred or not pictured.

The brand is new, with only nine fragrances. However, Michelle plans to expand the line to include more fragrances and body care products in the future.
